About ‘Shadow Days’…

I was driving this dawn to school (yes, 6am = dawn. in my life ‘early morning’ starts 7:30.), “Shadow Days” came on the speakers, and I was thinking and really paying atention in the lyrics… and damn, John Mayer got inside my mind and found everything I think about him.

It’s like a portrait of the way I see him, and I got really amused about this, and I’m sure I’m not the only one. So, stucked in the traffic jam (~~6 am and traffic jam, can you see the hell this city is?~~) I started to analyze the song…

That’s one of the reasons I love this man with all my heart. He knows he can’t be right all the time, he knows it and he can accept it. And as he already shown, he apologizes everytime he realizes it, sooner or later.

On my hotel floor

Hard times help me see

I guess everybody who already had a love (a really strong love) and/or had a heart broken more than once knows what this lines says. It can be your fault, it can be the other’s fault, it can be the destiny or the universe’s fault, nevermind, the way you feel in the end is always the same.

Look at this, this is pure! This is the man after delusion. And this makes me wanna hug him so fucking bad! How come this man can’t find someone to share his life with?

I’m a good man with a good heart
Had a tough time, got a rough start
And I finally learned to let it go
Now I’m right here, and I’m right now
And I’m hoping, knowing somehow
That my shadows days are over
My shadow days are over now

Yes, John, you are a good man with a good heart. Everybody here knows it, all your fans know it, it’s not hard to see. And it’s not hard to comprehend too that you had a tough time ‘cause people judges before knowing the reasons or the facts, and this get worst when you are a public person. We (I) could see that in your eyes through pictures, in your speeches, your banters.

I’m glad though you had the strength to let it go, to fight against it. Your shadow days will be over asap if it depends on people who loves you.

Here I started to cry, and I couldn’t really cry ‘cause I was driving. It was something like an ‘inside cry’. This part, specificly, have much more than I can say; there’s a lot of things we do in life that we regret afterwards. And sometimes goodbye is the only way to make it easier, not for us, but for the ones we love. Until we realize it though, we make things hard, heavier.

Well it sucks to be honest (honest)
And it hurts to be real
But it starts to make some love
That I can finally feel

Hard times let me be

And this part made a tiny little smile tugs the corner of my mouth. Love, what a word, what a feeling… There’s no “Shadow Days” when love is around. Then my heart felt a little bit lighter, whispering something like “the guy is back“… and I really hope he is.

I know this music is much more than the things I wrote, all of them are, but from all the new songs he showed, this one really touched my soul. As I said, this one makes me believe (after the tough year he had) that he is back.
